- What is a font license?
- A font license is your permission to use our fonts. It's an agreement that defines how you can use the fonts you purchase.
- Can I use your fonts for both personal and commercial projects?
- Yes, absolutely. Your license permits you to use our fonts for both personal and commercial purposes across various media, including print, web, applications, and social media.
- Who should buy the license, me or my client?
- The license should be purchased by the entity (company or organization) that will be the primary user and holds the overall responsibility for the project where the fonts are used. If you are a designer creating a project for a client, typically your client would be the Licensee, as they will be the ultimate end-user and owner of the project. However, you can purchase the license on their behalf.
- Can I buy fonts on behalf of my client?
- Yes, you can purchase fonts on behalf of your client. In such cases, please ensure that your client is named as the Licensee at the time of purchase, as the license will be granted to their company or organization.
- Do I need to buy a license for both myself and my client?
- No, only your client’s license is required. As a subcontractor or designer working on their behalf, you are covered under their license and can install and use the font solely for the purpose of completing their project.
However, you can’t use that same font for other clients or personal projects unless you hold your own license.
- Why would I need a freelance or solo license?
- One may indeed wonder, especially since you’re often covered under your clients’ licenses.
A freelance or solo license is ideal if you want to use our fonts for self-initiated projects, personal branding, or promotional materials for your own studio.
In other words, it gives you full creative freedom to use the fonts independently, without relying on a client’s license.
- How many computers can I install the fonts on?
- You can install and use our fonts on any number of devices within your organization. Any member of your company or organization can use these devices.
- What is considered an employee?
- When purchasing a license, you’ll need to specify the number of employees in your company, or in your client’s company if you’re a designer buying on their behalf.
We consider regular collaborators, such as long-term contractors or freelancers who consistently work with your company, as employees for licensing purposes. In short, it includes anyone who regularly contributes to your business operations.
- What happens if the number of employees changes?
- We allow flexibility with one tier of tolerance if your company size changes. Our license tiers are as follows:
- 1 person
- 2–5 people
- 6–10 people
- 11–20 people
- 21–50 people
- 51–100 people
- 101–200 people
- 201–500 people
- 501–1000 people
- 1000+ people
For example, if you purchased a license for 2–5 people, you’ll need to upgrade your license once your team reaches 11 people. Please contact us at contact@plombtype.com if you reached the allowed tier.
- Can I embed your fonts in websites, apps, or e-books?
- Yes, you can embed our fonts in various media like documents, websites, applications, e-books, and digital or installable products, with no restrictions on the number or type of media.
- Can I send the fonts to my printer, web developer, or graphic designer?
- Yes, you can send the fonts to third parties who are working on your behalf, such as a printer, web developer, or graphic designer. They are only permitted to use the fonts for projects directly related to your licensed use. Specific conditions apply, and they must agree to our terms.
- Are there any restrictions on how I can use the fonts?
- Yes, there are restrictions. For example, fonts cannot be redistributed. You also cannot modify the fonts, except for very specific use cases like subsetting for web files. Additionally, you cannot use the fonts to promote hate speech, discrimination, or any illegal activity. All detailed restrictions are outlined in the End-User License Agreement (EULA).
- Can I modify the fonts myself?
- You can import characters from our fonts into design programs as graphic objects and modify them there, and subset them for web files. However, modifying the font software itself (opening the font in a font editor like Glyphs, Robofont, Fontlab, Font Forge for example) is not permitted without our prior written consent.
- Can I modify some letters of the fonts if it's for a logo?
- Yes, you may vectorize individual characters from our fonts as graphic objects into drawing programs (like Inkscape, Adobe Illustrator, or Figma) and modify them for use in a logo or other graphic designs. However, you cannot create or distribute a modified copy of the font software itself.
- Do I need to credit Plomb Type or the designers when using the fonts?
- We would greatly appreciate it if you could credit the font name and its author(s) when using the fonts on websites, movies, books, magazines, video games, or any other document that includes a credits section. If you're a designer or agency, please try to credit the font name and tag Plomb Type on social media when sharing your projects. Please do not remove any Plomb Type credits embedded within the fonts.
